Can you replace the memory in a Dell Desktop with "Non" Dell Memory?
I have a Dell Desktop, I want to upgrade the Memory, do I have to use Dell Brand Memory or can I use a different brand/Company. As long as its the same size or type.

G'day P2Tim' Short answer -yes Long answer - You need to match type (DDR DDR2 SDRAM etc) and speed (100, 266, 333,400, 553 Etc) Type will make sure the pin configuration is correct, speed means that your computer RAM won't slow down (lowest speed in RAM dictates overall speed) Check Dell's website for specs of the type of RAM used by your computer. If you input your service tag number, it will tell you everything you want to know about your computer. Gazza

Can you add more memory sockets to increase the memory in a dell desktop. if so how?
I am going to try my hand at building a computer from 4 Dell computers and need to know if you have only have 2 memory sockets, can more be added to increase the memory. What else has to be done to get this to work?

No. Well, at least not with typical computer building expertise. You've essentially talking about redesigning the motherboard. It might technically be possible with high precision equipment, but it certainly isn't cost effective.

On i Dell desktop computer, where can u put your memory card at?
Ok, well i got this Dell desktop computer and i dont know where the lil memory/sim card slot it or whatever its called. I wanna download some pictures and my Dell laptop has a memory/sim card slot shouldnt the desktop? so where is it. thanks for all the answers i reall appreciate it.

Not all desktops come with a memory card slot. If you post the model of computer I can let you know if it has one or not. Most likely if you don't see it on the front of your machine, you don't have one. Sometimes there's a hidden panel on the front that folds down or slides down, so LIGHTLY pull and push on things that look like they might open.

How do I upgrade the RAM memory on my Dell desktop?
I have a Dell Dimension 4500 and System Properties tells me I have "1.99 GHz, 512 MB of RAM." I wish to (at least) double my RAM. What are my options for doing so? Do I have to buy RAM that is at least 1.99 GHz speed? Do I have to upgrade in increments of 512 MB? Where can I go to buy CHEAP & RELIABLE memory chips?

Ok, I looked up your computer and you are running 266mhz ram. For your setup, you need to buy 184 pin DDR ram of at least 266mhz. Ram is backward compatible as long as it uses the same socket, so you can use 184 pin DDR of any speed, since 266 is the slowest. Because 1gb pieces of ram didnt exist when that computer was made, it is safest to use only 512mb pieces. Acoording to dell, it can handle only 1gb between the 2 slots, so Im totally positive you shouldnt use a single 1gb piece. You also want to consider the CAS timing, which is the delay between the ram and the cpu. the lower the better. 3 is standard. Almost all ram has a lifetime warranty, and quality is very good for all name brands. Oh, and your existing ram fills both slots, so youll need to get rid of it.
